Meatless Meatballs

Hello,

Hope everyone is doing well across the globe. I have been kinda busy with personal work so haven't updated the blog in a long time and now that I'm free I will be posting regularly.

Today's recipe is something that we Indians have been cooking for the longest time and with the rise of Indian food across the globe I thought why not share this recipe with everyone. Now if you've read the previous recipes, I always have a connection between my food and my childhood.

The main ingredient of these meatless Meatballs is Bottle Gourd or as we Indians call it Doodhi. Growing up this was yet another vegetable I would eat it but not with a smile on my face. For me, vegetables were like kryptonite. Now I've made meatballs out of them, that's how my love for vegetables has grown. The interesting thing is that in India we call these Koftas and we have been cooking them for the longest ever time. We have so many variations to it that it's just mind-boggling.

Now getting to the recipe

List Of Ingredients For The Meatballs
Bottle gourd
Potatoes
Rice flour
Salt
Black Pepper
Rice Flour

List Of Ingredients For The Gravy
Tomatoes
Garlic
Onions
Green chillies
Ginger
Bay leaf
Curry leaves
Salt
Black Pepper
Turmeric Powder
Red Chilli Powder
Dhaniya Powder
Olive Oil

The Making Of The Meatballs
First up is you grate the bottle gourd and add salt to it and leave it till all the water is released. Next up take a muslin cloth add the bottle gourd and squeeze out all the excess water. It would look like this
Next up in a separate bowl, mash the potatoes and add the bottle gourd to it, add a little black pepper and lastly add 2-3 spoons of rice flour, that becomes the binder and mix all of them together and it should look like this.

Next up is the gravy. In a pressure cooker add some olive oil, bay leaf, garlic, 2 green chillies, curry leaves, ginger and jeera. Next add onions and tomatoes roughly cut and finally, it's time to add the spices, red chilli powder, dhaniya powder, turmeric, jeera powder, black pepper, salt and little water. Pressure cook them and shut the gas after 4 whistles.

The next step is to transfer them into a blender and let the mixture cool for some time.

Till the mixture cools, let make the Meatballs. Rub some oil on your palms so that the mixture doesn't stick to. Shape the mixture into small balls and this is what they would look like

The next step would be to fry them and in a vessel add oil and cook these on a medium flame and they would look like this

Coming to the gravy, now that the mixture has cooled, blend it but not too much and yes before blending please remove the bay leaf. This is what it will look like

The final step is here. Put the gravy on a low flame and add the Meatballs to it and let them cook together for another 10-12 mins and then you are done. Serve it with rice, roti or just as it is.
